Aloha
Last November we had the opportunity to go to Maui to shoot a very dear friend’s wedding in exchange for airfare. Needless to say we literally jumped at the opportunity for some tropical weather & island time. The wedding was a success! We got some great shots and had a wonderful weekend.
After the two day stint in Kaanapali we took off for Hana on the other side of the island, craving the raw rugged coastline and desolate beaches. We sought out one beach in particular, a red sand beach in its own private cove adorned with crystal clear, ice-blue waters enveloped by red rock cliffs. The hike out is a little steep, a woman leaving as we were arriving had fallen and injured herself; so if you find this secret beach be careful while traversing the cliffs!
There are also very few places to stay in Hana, so plan ahead. We did not and almost passed out when the receptionist at the main hotel gave us the room rates (off season). She was very kind and said she would probably sleep in her car before paying them herself. She proceeded to call a local woman who rents out her little A-frame alongside her home. What a treat! It was open, reasonable and we were able to live amongst the locals for a night.
