Make every day an adventure
Meeting other adventurous souls is a gift of more adventures to come. We experienced countless excursions while in Itacaré such as, walking down empty beaches as far as our legs would carry us, eating only foraged wild tropical fruits and coconuts, crossing rivers, hiking through jungles at night, and dancing in open air bars to live music until the wee hours of the morning; these happenings colored our stay, and left us feeling as if we had found paradise.
This place made us feel completely free and at any given moment, anything could happen. It was like living in a story book, and we couldn’t wait to wake up each morning to see what the day would bring. One afternoon, an intended short swim across the river mouth turned into 6 hours of exploring. A storm arrived adding to the excitement as we found ourselves walking back to town in total darkness with only the sound of the ocean gushing in our ears, and the cool raindrops mixed with the surf’s spray pelting down on our faces. What a sight we must have been, 4 wet bodies emerging from the black water, glistening in the night with 3 dogs paddling behind us. We ran through town, laughing, barefoot, wearing nothing but bikinis in the rain. Moments like these, of pure joy and wildness shared with good people in the beauty of nature make life worth living.
The grandest expedition of them all was an overnight hike to a nearby beach. We walked out to Prainha laden with surfboards and hammocks just in time to catch the sunset. That night we celebrated by our palm frond bonfire feasting on coconuts and fire roasted crunchy crabs. Our bellies full, we laid in the sand, eyes to the stars overwhelmed by the magic of mother nature as the meteor shower above rained down on our spirits. We woke up the next morning to the sun rising, gleaming on the horizon, and showering our bodies with warmth. The sunrise seemed to be begging us to jump into the ocean, and so we did.
