Big Sur
Big Sur holds many treasures tucked away in its mysterious, majestic mountains. On your first drive through the winding road it seems very desolate, nearly abandoned. All you feel is the heart throb of the ocean as the waves crash onto the rocks looming over the sea. It wasn’t until we took a road trip South down Hwy 1 with our dear friend Caitlin that we were introduced to the real Big Sur and its hidden gems. Crystal clear, ice-blue water pools, a clean, glassy point break you can hike out to, camping, and organic gardens high up in the hills await, so make friends with the locals!
Now you did it ! I’m finished with this icy northern island swang
yeah, I’m heading down to warm Molera in expectations of a warm brilliant sunrise… and possible surfing along side curly headed long legged Wahine surf goddess ! This particular parking spot is located just prior to entering the redwoods of Sur and follows just south of the west coast’s first Frissen glassed lighthouse @ El Sur Ranch . On my first venture out here, which is a point break right… met a survivor of a major tooth attack (shark) zipping up readying to go out after a long healing session following the attack.. which in my memory occured at Moss Landing ala grey shark .
That was a eye opening experience..seeing lashes along this dudes rip cage extending from his chest down to the hips . This dates back in circa ‘ 79, just when I was beginning .
At that time I was surfing early @ Carmel, hotfooting it up down to a long time gig working metal sculpture (brass&copper) @ The Garden Shop, on Lincoln between Ocean @ 7th . We did all the work there on the premises with a fire going in an old workshop
with all of our work in a nice garden setting dotted with ponds and fountains, mobiles, windchimes, etc. . Carmel broke consistantly all up and down the length from 4th st. down to 14th
and often with a stiff offshore .At the most, the crowd grew to at max, 9 or so… and we all knew each other ! I’m grin’n now !
Daphne and her new bow are tenting and hiking in Hawaii as we speak…. a much deserved time to re’charge um !
I spent all of today, relaxing in Deer Harbor, carefully looking over every concievable type of floating thing . I personally love tugs ! Nortic Tugs ! Cozy, spacious creature comforts…. yet I will have to admit, one particularly fine racing sloop, Tomahawk, a live aboard, based here… presently being refitted (sound familiar) (think they have a very generous blog site…. owned by a (like you two) young bright energetic, amaginative couple with their adorable little munchkin daughter…. Extremely beam’eeeeeeee, race look, totally stealth deck, finished in dark blue white top… around 45 ft .
enough blabla… I’m heading south to Carmel Valley at the end of the week… miss home ! chow now brown sail’n cows !
